To better reflect the cutting-edge educational program taught within its walls, the Gatton College of Business and Economics sought to transform its 1963, four-story building into an impressive icon of the College’s cutting-edge programs. The new, technology-rich environment was designed to support a “world ready” business education and support future growth needs. Tiered classrooms feature state-of-the-art projection systems, while smaller break-out rooms offer peer-to-peer learning. An impressive 500-seat auditorium, Executive Education and Conference Center and MBA Center are also included. At the building’s core, a large atrium is the active social heart of the building where students can linger on the expansive social stair, lounge in comfortable furniture or collaborate at the study carrels.
The LEED Gold Gatton College of Business and Economics incorporates several unique sustainable features including a large, central atrium flooded in soft, natural light. A social stair and a variety of comfortable furnishings encourage students to linger in the space for study or social gatherings. A 100-year-old burr oak tree that had to be removed for construction was immortalized inside the building accenting the interior and becoming a beautiful table for the Executive Board Room. The spacious atrium and cafe space has become a popular stop for University of Kentucky (UK) students across multiple departments and disciplines.
