Lovett Auditorium Renovation

One of Murray State University’s original campus structures, historic Lovett Auditorium is a treasured campus icon where high caliber fine arts performances, graduation ceremonies and campus events are held.

Originally constructed in 1926, the building was in need of a comprehensive renovation to restore it to its original splendor. Renovations were conducted in two phases, first focusing on updating the HVAC. A new mechanical space was created to enable the removal and relocation of mechanical equipment, which had previously been housed backstage. A failing structural pier was repaired under the stage.

A second phase of construction focused on replacing doors and windows with historically sensitive framing. New ductwork was added to provide thermal control for the balcony. The gorgeous, plaster coffered ceiling was repaired and repainted, and new stage and window curtains were installed.

Throughout the auditorium, hardwood flooring was refinished and new carpet was installed. and seating was reconfigured to improve legroom and sightlines to the stage.
