To replace West Irvine Elementary in its entirety on the same limited site, the design team had to overcome a variety of challenges. Over the course of two years – and without interruption of the educational function of the school – newly constructed spaces slowly replaced existing spaces until the building was reborn completely. Inside the new building, grade-specific wings separate younger students from intermediate students. Shared common spaces are centrally located and designed to be used for after school programs and extracurricular activities. Multiple teaching walls and flexible furnishings were made to accommodate multiple teaching styles, and several breakout rooms allow for one-on-one tutoring, making this intermediate school a prime learning facility marked for excellence.
West Irvine Elementary is a beautiful facility and just one of many examples across this state that speak to the quality of their work.
