J. Douglas Gay Jr. & Frances Carrick Thomas Library Renovation

In order to better meet the demands of the 21st century, Centre College sought to transform and expand the campus library into a Learning Commons, digital hub and cafe. The library lobby and primary circulation desk were redesigned to provide a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing entry experience for visitors. Stacks for the College’s 350,000-volume collection were reconfigured accompanied by comfortable seating in spaces suited to independent study and small group collaboration. A new, self enclosed Learning Commons was created to provide space for larger group study. A robust technology infrastructure was installed throughout the building to provide connectivity throughout the space and into the attached Einstein Bagel shop, making the new Learning Commons ideally suited to support academic success.
