Hal Rogers Advanced Technology Center

When Big Sandy Community & Technical College (BSCTC) received a federal grant to build the new Advanced Technology Center, they tasked RossTarrant Architects to lead the design. One of only three facilities in the entire United States focused on teaching broadband technology, this building will be an economic generator not only for Pikeville and Pike County, but for the entire Appalachian region. This prominent project will sit on a main public street and will be a focal point at the entry to the campus. Its modern façade reflects the cutting-edge technology that is to be taught inside, while simultaneously harmonizing in material and detail with the existing buildings on campus. The two-story building contains multiple teaching spaces including a tiered lecture classroom, general classrooms, smaller seminar rooms, and a large-bay lab that is flexibly designed to accommodate a wide variety of training events.

Designed to earn LEED Silver, this high-performance building is extremely energy efficient, conserves water and is bathed in soft, natural daylight.
