Downing Student Union’s LEED Silver renovation and expansion turned an outdated and underutilized building into a thriving heart of the campus community. DSU offers students activity, lounges and recreational spaces to encourage social interaction and build community. Quiet study areas, a 24-hour study zone, private meeting rooms and offices offer a wide variety of spaces for students and student organization to call home. DSU is also home to the campus bookstore where Western Kentucky University (WKU) spirit gear is prominently displayed in the windows to welcome and attract campus visitors.  In addition, the primary campus dining facilities are located in DSU and include the popular RefZone sports bar, retail venues Steak ‘n Shake, Papa Johns, Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, and the residential dining hall, Fresh Food Company.
