Carter G. Woodson Center for Interracial Education

A 1903 alumnus, renowned historian, and scholar of Berea College, Carter G. Woodson, is credited as the Father of Black History. The Eduation Center was a renovation of the campus’s existing Alumni Building, designed to support, strengthen, and extend Berea College’s interracial education commitment.

The Center houses the Black Cultural Center, multipurpose spaces, offices, a meeting/seminar space and a library/resource center. An extensive graphic display creates an illustrative, museum quality timeline of Black History within the central space and features custom printed LED backlit panels highlighting graphics and images owned by the College and reproduced with permission from the Smithsonian and other sources. Other elements include a cast of Woodson’s signature over the reception desk and etchings on the entry doors.
