This month, we’re excited to spotlight Angela Sanchez, a Landscape Designer who finds inspiration in creating functional beauty and seeing her designs come to life in real spaces.

Q. How long have you been at RTA?
A. I have been with RTA for almost 2 years.
Q. What inspired you to pursue a career in landscape architecture?
A. I was inspired by the ability to make functional beauty that helps people live their best lives.
Q. Tell us about a favorite RTA memory/experience/specific day on the job that stands out to you.
A. The first project of mine that I saw built in real life was Prestonsburg High School’s football field turf replacement. Hearing the high school staff talk about how much the public had enjoyed the public reveal was very motivating!
Q. What do you enjoy most about designing education spaces?
A. I enjoy seeing designs go from being sketches and plans to real spaces that let kids know they are important.
Q. What is a fun fact about you is that you think not many of your RTA coworkers would know about you?
A. I have lived on three islands!
Q. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
A. If I had a superpower, it would be to be an omniglot – which is a person who has mastered all languages!
Q. If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
A. I would love to have dinner with Dutch watchmaker Corrie Ten Boom because she did countless small acts of love that added up to huge acts of love, she used every resource to its fullest, and she had a great sense of humor. Also, Lucille Ball!!!
Q. Before pursuing your current career, what is the most unusual or unique job you have ever had?
A. I was previously a long-haul truck dispatcher!
Q. What is your guilty pleasure TV show or movie?
A. My guilty pleasure series is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, every movie version (but the Swedish version is the best) + the books.
Q. Do you have a favorite sports team or athlete? If so, who and why?
A. The Dallas Cowboys (the swagger) & the San Antonio Spurs (the heart)
Q. What is a skill or talent you have always wanted to learn but have not had the chance to yet?
A. Auctioneering, through-hiking, tiling floors/wall, extreme Viking braids, and propagating succulents, to name a few.
