Principal Jillian Blanton described the school’s opening as “a dream come true,” reflecting years of dedication to bringing this vision to life. Assistant Superintendent Kelly Fithen emphasized its significance, stating, “It lays the foundation for all of our students.” The preschool is designed to support children of all abilities, ensuring that every student, regardless of their needs, can navigate and thrive in their learning environment.

The school features themed classroom neighborhoods inspired by Kentucky’s natural beauty—Red River Gorge, Daniel Boone National Forest, Cumberland Lake, and Kentucky Bluegrass—creating a fun and immersive atmosphere for early education. Play-based learning spaces, indoor activity areas, and sensory-friendly features allow students to explore, grow, and engage in meaningful ways.

Chief Operating Officer Brandon Watkins highlighted the significance of the project, saying, “It is super exciting to be part of this. We’ll have one of the premier preschool centers in the state of Kentucky.” He also underscored the district’s commitment to early education, stating, “In Clark County, preschool is not an afterthought. Our Lil’ Cards have been made a priority, as they should be. It is an investment that will pay good returns down the road.”

For Brian Buckner, RTA Project Manager for the Clark County Preschool project, this design was more than just another assignment—it was personal. “My own kids were preschool-aged during the evolution of this project, and as such, it became incredibly near and dear to me,” he shared. “Our design goals were to create an enriching, safe, and inspiring place that supports the developmental needs of the youngest learners in Clark County. Being there on the first day of school was one of the highlights of my career, and I am so excited to see how the students will thrive in this place and make it their own. I am so honored to have been a part of this project.”

Director of Early Learning Jill Blanton echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the long-term impact of early childhood education. “My greatest celebration is the recognition of early childhood education as a critical investment in our future,” she said. “This project is a testament to the power of proactive, intentional education, and I am proud to be part of a community and district that values and supports our youngest learners.”

As Assistant Superintendent Kelly Fithen put it, “We’re truly growing greatness here in Clark County.”
